I'm bad at relaxing. I don't know what to do with stillness. My body likes it well enough considering I still haven't lost the 20 chemo pounds that I gained 2 years ago, but my mind? The only thing that has ever taken my mind out of real life is reading, and I can do it for hours. Days, even, if I'm left alone. Reading was a blessed escape during treatment when I had the energy. You simply can't sustain thinking about cancer, cancer treatment, cancer treatment side effects, survivablity ... see what I mean? You have to get away from it, even when you can’t really get away from it. That's why I'm so glad to be partnering with the most adorable independently-owned book shop here in town, Starline Books. I'll be blissfully buried face-first in this stack for the coming weeks as I select some for a developing Lucent Gift subscription. If you're a Chattanoogan, please check out this treasure of a store. Keep an eye out for the "Lucent Gift Recommends ... " section for books that you can lose yourself in, especially if you have a cancer warrior in your life who needs a daily escape. What sort of books did my fellow fighters and survivors read while on treatment? I'd love to hear your recommendations!
